Simple Poha ( Flattened Rice )

Poha is a versatile dish that is eaten in India. It can be eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It is super nutritious.

1 cup Poha ( flattened Rice )

2 tbsp Olive Oil or Coconut Oil

1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds

1 tbsp Channa Dal ( split Bengal Gram )

1 tbsp Urad Dal ( Split Black Gram )

6 Curry Leaves

1 Onion, chopped long

1 tsp Salt


1/4 cup coconut, grated

2 tbsp cilantro, minced

lemon, to taste


1Rinse the Poha ( flattened rice ) in clean water, strain it. Then sprinkle it with water and let it sit for 5 minutes

2In a Saucepan, start heating the coconut oil

3Once oil is hot, add the mustard seeds and wait until it pops

4Add the channa dal and mix it. Then add urad dal and mix again until golden brown. Then add the curry leaves

5Add in Onions and mix until they are slightly carmelized

6Add the soaked poha and mix softly to combine with all ingredients

7Add salt and keep mixing to make sure they are all well combined.

8Optional: add shredded coconut and minced cilantro and do a quick stir to mix properly. Turn off the heat

9Serve and Enjoy
